Maytag Stove Surface Element Isn’t Working

Maytag Stove Surface Element Isn’t Working

Maytag stove surface element isn’t heating or working properly, here is some repair help for some of the most common no heating problems with your Maytag stove/range

Always make sure that the surface elements on your stove are not hot and have cooled down before handling them.  If one or more of the surface elements have stopped working on your oven or stove/cooktop you can do a visual check by simply looking to see if there is a break in the element or if the element has bubbling, a burned hole or blistering.  If the surface element does have visible damage, more than likely it is bad.  However, you can’t always tell if an element is good or bad by just examining it with your eyes.

Check to make sure that the surface element has not become loose from the terminal block that it is plugged into.  Some surface elements simply plug into the receptacle – terminal block requiring no tools for removal or replacement.  Other elements have a screw attaching them to the receptacle – terminal block.  Make sure that the screws are tight and have not come loose, a regular or Phillips head screw driver will be required.

If the coil surface element still does not heat up after the above procedures have been performed you will need to do a continuity test.  If you have a multi meter or OHM meter you can check the element for continuity, if the element shows continuity then it is good.  If it shows no continuity then the element is bad and will need to be replaced.

If the damage is on the terminal ends of the element with corrosion buildup or signs of charred or burnt spots it is a good idea to replace the terminals as well or else you might not have good electrical contact after the new element has been installed.

If you have checked the element for continuity and it is good, next you need to check the receptacle terminals and wires for obvious damage such as burnt spots, melted plastic, arching or corrosion, if damage is found you need to replace the terminal block with a new one.  If you have checked the coil element and the terminal block receptacle and have determined that they are both good and in working order, you will need to check the infinite switch – surface burner switch for continuity.  It is the switch that the coil element selector knob is attached to on the console or top of your oven/stove, depending on the make and model.  If the switch is bad replace it with a new one.

Maytag Dryer Runs But Doesn’t Heat..

Maytag Dryer Runs But Doesn’t Heat..

Your Maytag dryer may not need any new parts to restore the heat or require any tools for doing this dryer repair.  You

may be able to have your electric dryer heating again by just flipping a switch.

Before assembling all of the tools needed for repairing your electric dryer and taking apart the dryer’s cabinet, let’s try this first.  Here’s what you will need to do, you will need to locate your home’s breaker box.  Locate the breaker switch that is designated to supply electrical power to your clothes dryer,

which is usually a 30 AMP double throw breaker.  Next you will need to firmly flip the breaker switch off and on a few times to test it, even if the switch looks like it is in the on position.  The electric dryer has two 110 volt circuits, the dryer motor will run but will not supply voltage to the heating element if one circuit has been tripped or is not on.  During the heat of summer, this is a pretty common occurrence.

If this did not fix the no heat problem with your dryer, you will need to test the dryer’s heating element, thermal fuse, thermostats and

timer/circuit board to see if they are all functioning properly.

Whirlpool Calypso Washer Not Filling With Water

Whirlpool Calypso Washer Not Filling With Water

This water inlet valve is used on some Whirlpool washers. The water valve controls and monitors the flow of water into the washer. It is used to supply cold, warm or hot water to the washer’s tub.

If you have noticed that your washing machine takes longer than usual to fill with water, your washer does not have cold water, hot water or very little to no water, maybe you even hear a humming or buzzing sound coming from the washer console, then these are all symptoms of a bad water inlet valve, but not always.

Always unplug the washer and turn off both hot and cold water valves from the household water supply before removing the supply hoses.

Before replacing the inlet valve or other washer parts you can check these items first.  You will need to turn off the water supply to the washer.  You will also need to check the filter screens in the water valve inlet ports as well as the filter screens in both of the water supply hoses, if any are present.  It could be they are full of sediment or calcium deposits from hard water, preventing the water flow.

If this easy washing machine repair tip did not solve your washer, little to no water issue, then you will need to delve a little deeper and do some trouble shooting which will require a multi-meter or voltage tester.  This will need to be performed by a person qualified to do this testing.

York Central Air Conditioner Circuit Board Replacement

York Central Air Conditioner Circuit Board Replacement

The circuit board on your York central air conditioner can go bad without any warning sign or symptoms just like a light bulb burns out at the flip of a switch.

The central air conditioner circuit board is also known by many different names throughout the (HVAC) Heating Ventilation and Air Condition Industry.

Control Module, Control Board, Circuit Board, Mother Board.

Turn off or disconnect the power source to your central air conditioner then remove the access panels from the unit.

When replacing the bad central air conditioner circuit board with a new circuit board it is a good practice to have the new replacement board out of its packaging or box and to hold it in front of the old board so that you can examine both of the circuit/control boards and make certain that they are the same before pulling any wires loose from the existing board and replacing it.

If you are not familiar with all of the wires that are connected and will need to be disconnected and transferred from one board to the other, have your phone handy and snap a few good photos of the bad circuit board while it is still connected in your unit for future reference, if needed.

Now that you know that both of the circuit boards are the same, hold the new one up close to the old one and begin transferring the wires from the old board to the new one, one at a time, using a pair of needle nose pliers.  You will need a screwdriver to disconnect the screws for your small gauge thermostat wires.  While transferring and reconnecting the thermostat wires, make sure that the outer plastic coating is cut back far enough from the tip of the bare wires so that when you connect them to the new circuit board you only have bare copper wire touching the plate while you tighten the screws down for a good electrical connection.

Once you have transferred all of the wires from the old circuit board to the new replacement board you will need to loosen or take the screws out of the bad circuit board housing or mounting panel.  Once it is loose and free from the unit you will need to turn it over and release the circuit board from the back of the mounting panel then simply align the new board pins with the holes in the mounting panel and snap it into place.

Now, position the mounting panel back onto the furnace and tighten the screws back.  Replace all of the access panels and secure them.  Turn the power source back on and your central air conditioner should be good to go and ready for use.

The circuit board on your York central air conditioner unit has a life span just like any other household appliance parts do and can wear out from use and age.  Lightning storms/strikes cause a lot of havoc on household appliances and are responsible for damage to many appliance circuit boards.  Electrical power surges and flood waters or moisture/condensation can also be to blame for a faulty circuit board.

Hollow Ice Cubes In My Whirlpool Icemaker

Hollow Ice Cubes In My Whirlpool Icemaker

Why is my ice maker making hollow ice cubes? Drinks don’t get cold enough with hollow ice cubes and the ice melts almost instantly after contact with liquids in the glass.

One reason may be that your Whirlpool refrigerator has an incorrect freezer temperature or may have inadequate water flow.  Either problem is relatively easy and inexpensive to correct.

The temperature in your freezer may be either too cold or not cold enough.  This depends on how high or low you have your freezer thermostat set.  Getting your freezer to the correct temperature is simple, just use a thermometer.  Place the thermometer in the freezer for 10 – 12 hours, check it and adjust the temperature, wait another 10 – 12 hours and follow the same procedure until your freezer is set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius).

Another possibility is  that your thermostat has gone bad.  Not all refrigerators have thermostats, some have a timer.  You will need to check  your manual to determine which of these parts your refrigerator is equipped with.  If your refrigerator has a thermostat it is possible that it is cycling too soon and your ice will not freeze solid.

Check your manual to find the correct thermostat for your Whirlpool model refrigerator.  Replacing the thermostat will be explained in your manual.  If you would rather not do this repair yourself call a qualified appliance repair person.

A defective water filter could also be the problem.  It could be that it needs to be replaced because it is not supplying enough water to your ice maker.  Water filters should normally be replaced every 6 months.

Finally, if everything checks out ok, pull your refrigerator away from the wall and  look at your water line to make certain it is not kinked or maybe frozen. If it is frozen you will need to turn off the water shut off valve.  You can defrost the line with a hair dryer or heat a wet bath towel in the microwave and wrap it around the frozen water line letting it thaw out.
